• On living life to its fullest: “You have one life and you have to make the most of it.”

• Ricky Martin defended Madonna’s adoption of a 1-year-old Malawian boy, calling her an “exemplary” mother, and said he, too, would like to adopt. Ricky said: “The love she gives her kids is a dream, and I know that her heart is big enough to adopt not just one child but to adopt 20.”
• Former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham called on the Bahamian government Wednesday to investigate whether Anna Nicole Smith has legal residency status in the country and said Anna “is not a fit and proper person to become a permanent resident of the Bahamas.” “Her general character and reputation don’t commend her for such status.” Ingraham added.
• Liev Schreiber is joining the cast of CSI. Beginning in January, the actor will fill in for star William Peterson, who is taking time off to appear in a play.

According to Variety, Kate Winslet will lend her voice talent to CG-animated feature Gnomeo and Juliet (Miramax Films). Being pushed by performer Elton John, Gnomeo and Juliet is a twist on Shakespeare’s classic that’s set in the world of tacky garden gnomes. People familiar with the project said it has a Monty Python sensibility and presumably the move to a specialty label will afford it an edgier, hipper tone.  No release date has been set yet. New York, NY :: Looks like actress Kate Winslet, 30, and director Ron Howard, 52, are ready to collaborate on a movie project together.  Kate and Ron met earlier this weekend on the streets of Manhattan.  Shortly before, Kate pushed around a stroller with her sleeping son Joe Mendes, 2. Daughter Mia Threapleton, 5, and producer husband Sam Mendes, 40, were not present.  Happy Mother’s Day to Kate and all the other moms!  More pictures in the gallery!

New York, NY :: 30-year-old actress Kate Winslet carried out more mommy duties as she picked up her 5-year-old daughter Mia Threapleton from school again.  Kate took along 2-year-old son Joe Mendes for the ride but producer husband Sam Mendes, 40, was MIA. Although Joe does look schoolbound with his Thomas the Tank Engine backpack.  Choo-choo! But is age 2 too young to be in school?  Don’t forget Mother’s Day is right around the corner — it’s this Sunday!  More pictures in the gallery!

Sprinting across 9th Ave. at 14th St. was Kate Winslet, holding her daughter’s hand. Hair in a pony, not a speck of makeup, couldn’t have looked more normal. Had that frazzled "I can’t believe we’re late to school again!" look.
