Katherine Heigl and BFF costar T.R. Knight are hanging up their scrubs and leaving Grey’s Anatomy.

“Yes, she is [leaving],” co-star James Pickens Jr. (Dr. Richard Webber) tells Us Weekly. “Wherever Katherine goes, I wish her nothing but the best. [TR Knight's] going too. He just wanted to pursue other career paths.”

“Right now, the whole thing is in the hands of their agents and ABC’s lawyers,” an insider tells EW. “Something will probably be worked out soon, but it’s a safe bet that Katherine and T.R. won’t be returning as series regulars next season.”

Katherine Heigl puffs away on a cancer stick as she and husband Josh Kelley wait outside the Kabuki Japanese restaurant on Monday night (January 2) in West Hollywood.

Heigl, 30, recently made an appearance at the Los Angeles Department of Animal Care & Control to promote pet adoption.

“This tiny little dog we got definitely seems like it could be a good little proving ground,” Kelley, 29, said of the possibility of parenthood.

“We’re closer now even than we were when we got married—it’s so awesome,” Kelley told E!. “I think if you’re supposed to be together, your love grows. And I can say if your love doesn’t grow, maybe it’s time to move on.”

Katherine Heigl visits the Los Angeles Department of Animal Care & Control on Monday (January 26) in LA, Calif.

The 30-year-old Grey’s Anatomy actress made the appearance to promote pet adoption. Heigl and husband Josh Kelley already live with five dogs and recently brought home another puppy.

“I do understand people going to breeders, but what you cannot do is get a dog from a puppy mill,” Katherine recently said.

Last week, Katherine showed off her new bangs after seeing her husband perform live last Wednesday night.

At the 2009 People’s Choice Awards, Katherine picked up the PCA trophy for Favorite Comedy Movie for 27 Dresses, beating out Get Smart and Mamma Mia!

Katherine’s co-star Melissa George, just confirmed that she will be leaving Grey’s Anatomy. “I love the show so much,” George told EW. “I’ve made some beautiful friends. I love T.R. Knight. I love Patrick Dempsey, Justin Chambers… I adore Ellen Pompeo. I think she’s a strong, incredible woman. And Katherine Heigl is the most beautiful creature on Earth.”

Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl keep close in this new movie still from their upcoming rom-com The Ugly Truth, out April 3.

Plot details: A romantically challenged morning-show producer (Heigl) is reluctantly embroiled in a series of outrageous tests by her male chauvinist correspondent (Butler) to prove his theories on relationships and allow her to find love. His clever ploys, however lead to an unexpected result.

”They embark on this ridiculous pairing of two people who are from polar opposite sides of the issue,” Heigl tells EW. ”The whole men are from Mars, women are from Venus thing… [In comparison to my last romantic comedy,] it’s not so soft, and everything isn’t so perfect. This movie was just a little more edgy…enough to make it at least more interesting to the guys who take their girlfriends.”
