Matthew McConaughey rubs shoulders with surfing champion Kelly Slater on Sunday at the Quiksilver Pro surf event at Snapper Rocks in Coolangatta, Australia along Queensland’s Gold Coast.

In a television interview, a shirtless McConaughey opened up his upcoming movie, Surfer Dude: “The next film I’m doing is a surf film. A lot of this is for leisure and pleasure but also looking around and keeping an eye open for what happens and what goes on in the tournaments.

“To see the balance that these guys have …knowing the water, what waves to get on and when to get on it.”

Other pictures include Kelly Slater in Australia getting flirty with Maori-Polynesian beauty Meagan Gale at the Conrad Jupiters’ charity poker tournament the weekend before last.

Who knew Ashlee Simpson could surf? The singer is hitting the waves for the "Kelly Slater Celebrity Surf Invitational," airing on MTV March 25 at 4:30 p.m. and also featuring Jack Osbourne and Ashley Parker Angel. Braxton Olita, Simpson’s bandmate and boyfriend, came along for the special — "He’s my love!" she told Jane magazine for its April cover story.
