• Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie left Malawi Friday after gaining custody of a 1-year-old boy they adopted during a weeklong tour of orphanages. Yohame Banda, father of newly adopted boy David, said he is happy for his son and that Madonna and Guy “are a lovely couple.”
• Usher has withdrawn from Broadway musical Chicago because he has a sever case of strep throat. The singer has been sidelined since last Friday and was scheduled to give his farewell performance tomorrow night.
• John Mayer alluded to Jessica Simpson, who he was once rumored to be dating, on his blog yesterday. Mayer said Sheryl Crow should retaliate for a prank he played on her “by dressing up in a blond wig and roller skates, licking an ice cream cone,” a la Simpson in her video for “A Public Affair.”

Synopsis :: Set against the backdrop of civil war and chaos in 1990’s Sierra Leone, Blood Diamond is the story of Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) - a South African mercenary - and Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou) - a Mende fisherman. Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon (and wife Luciana Bozan), Mark Wahlberg, Jack Nicholson, and Mira Sorvino attended the Warner Bros. Pictures premiere of Martin Scorsese’s The Departed at the Ziegfeld Theatre last night in New York City. The Departed opens in theaters next Friday, Oct. 6. More pictures in the gallery!

Matt Damon kissed his wife on the lips before doing his red-carpet interviews solo. When asked what kind of criminal he would make in real life, Damon replied, “Probably not a very good one. I’d probably just apologize my way out of everything. I’d be pretty useless.”

• Brad Pitt is denying rumors that he will star in the next Mission: Impossible after the demise of Paramount’s relationship with Tom Cruise. “It’s totally made up,” his rep told the Daily News.
• Rosie O’Donnell gave co-star Julian McMahon an eyeful when they were shooting a sex scene for Nip/Tuck. O’Donnell told Access Hollywood that when the tube top she was wearing for a scene kept creeping up and getting into the director’s shot, she fixed the situation by pulling it down. The actress said McMahon (plastic surgeon Dr. Christian Troy on the show) looked down and told her “nice boobs,” adding that she’d “love to do that show again and again and again.” The episode airs Oct. 3.
• Leonardo DiCaprio is house-hunting for himself and his mother New York, he told the NYP at Butter during Butter co-owner Richie Akiva’s 29th birthday party this week. At present, DiCaprio is in contract to but a $5 million penthouse in Hudson Blue, a complex being built in the Village.
• Five-year SNL actor Seth Meyers will enter the ranks of show alums Chevy Chase, Dennis Miller, Norm MacDonald, Colin Quinn, and now Tina Fey when he joins SNL’s “Weekend Update” this season. Meyers will replace Fey as Amy Poehler’s co-anchor, the show’s creator and executive producer, Lorne Michaels, said on Thursday. Like Fey, Meyers will also be one of the show’s head writers.

TMZ reports, "Good friends and Hollywood Hills neighbors Tobey Maguire and Leo DiCaprio are taking a holiday in Hawaii this week. • Pamela Anderson confirms she plans to marry Kid Rock in France, California, Michigan, and Tennessee. "I’m going to get married a few times this month to the same guy," Pamela said during a news conference about her new online poker site, PamelaPoker.com. The first set of nuptials will take place near St. Tropez, France reportedly this weekend.
• Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are planning to get married later this summer, says Cruise’s rep, Paul Bloch, who added that the ceremony will take place at one of the actor’s homes.  Several reports had suggested the couple was going to marry this weekend.
