Lucy Liu gets into character as a LAPD officer on the set of Southland on Tuesday (November 8) In Los Angeles.

The 42-year-old actress shot some scenes with Michael Cudlitz for the TNT drama, which returns January 17.

“You definitely get the grittiness, the reality of it. You just jump in headfirst. I’ve done a couple of stunts, and, you know, it’s not about padding you up. It’s about throwing you around,” Lucy recently said about playing a cop.

“I don’t think my martial-arts training is going to save me in this environment,” she added. “They can be running around using their guns.”

Lucy Liu celebrates the book launch of “Lucy Liu: Seventy Two” at designer Tory Burch‘s Madison Avenue boutique on Wednesday (October 12) in New York City.

The book showcases 72 abstract ink and acrylic paintings created by Lucy. For each copy sold at the event, the book’s publisher, Salma Editions, donated 5% of all proceeds to the Tory Burch Foundation and another 5 percent to UNICEF (Lucy is an ambassador).

Guests included The Last Airbender‘s Nicola Peltz (with older brother Matt), Lucy‘s boyfriend, hedge fund manager Noam Gottesman, Jessica Lange, and Carla Gugino (wearing a Max Mara black and white jumpsuit as well as the Arlette Trench and the Robinson Clutch from Tory Burch).

Lucy Liu, Olivia Munn, and Irina Shayk show off some leg at a screening of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan on Wednesday (July 13) at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in NYC.

The 42-year-old actress wore a Noir Chantilly lace ball gown with embroidered tulle and ostrich feather skirt for the event, which she attended with the designer herself.

The happy couple visited the Accademia Gallery, the Corridoio Vasariano, the Bargello Palace, the Cappelle Medicee and Santa Croce Cathedral.

Lucy, who’s coming out with an art book this fall, has said, “I’m dating somebody, this wonderful person, for seven months… He’s not in [show] business at all, I met him through a friend. There was definitely some chemistry, you know. It’s the beginning, but it’s serious. I love being in love!”
