Madonna travels with her children Lourdes Leon, Mercy James and David Banda, to visit the Mphandu la Orphanage in the Namitete area outside Lilongwe, Malawi on Thursday (October 29).

The 51-year-old entertainer attended the ground breaking ceremony for the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls.

Madonna recently blogged to urge people to join her cause. “I’m writing to urge you to join me in saving the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable children. And I’m asking you to do it right away.

Raising Malawi, the organization I co-founded in 2006, is dedicated to ending the poverty and hardship endured by Malawi’s one million orphans. By donating to Raising Malawi, you can literally transform the future for an entire generation. To encourage your involvement, I’ve pledged $100,000 to match your contributions dollar-for-dollar.”

Madonna has taken to the Huffington Post to write a call to action on Wednesday (October 28).

“I am making a straightforward request,” the 51-year-old Material Mom wrote. “I’m writing to urge you to join me in saving the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable children. And I’m asking you to do it right away.”

Already pledging $100,000 to match outside donations dollar-for-dollar, Madonna explained that she felt connected to Malawi’s children in a special way. “Right now, I am particularly concerned about Malawian girls whose lives are made even more difficult simply because of their gender,” she wrote.

“The girls of Malawi are bright and resourceful,” she continued. “They are eager to learn and grow. When I look at my girls and see them thriving, it is my greatest wish that the girls in Malawi will have the same chance for happiness.”

Madonna plants a Moringa tree at the site of her future academy for girls in a village north of Lilongwe, Malawi on Monday (October 26).

The 51-year-old entertainer was joined by daughter Lourdes, 13, at the ground breaking ceremony and planting of the “miracle tree.”

“Growing up in a privileged life, I took education for granted…but coming to Malawi has taught me a lot of things and (I have) learned to appreciate what life gives,” Madonna said.

“I realized how much they deserve to be educated and so for me the best thing I could do was to build a school, a unique school that will create future female leaders, scientists, lawyers, doctors and if this school is successful it will be used as a model to replicate it in other countries.”

The school will admit 500 girls, ABC News reports, and construction will cost about $15 million.

Lourdes Leon gets into the Halloween spirit - or maybe she just likes Twilight - by wearing some fun vampire fangs in London on Wednesday (October 22).

Her inspiration may also have come from Lady Gaga, who was spotted wearing plastic fangs at London’s Heathrow Airport in August. Madonna recently told Rolling Stone that Lourdes, 13, is a big Gaga fan!

Madonna also mentioned to RS that Lourdes has been experimenting with style by borrowing clothes from her!

“[Lourdes] wears the same sizes as me now, so she steals my clothes, my shoes, she’s constantly in my closets,” Madonna shared.

Lourdes Leon is becoming quite the fashionista, channeling her mom Madonna from the 80’s film Desperately Seeking Susan, before hopping into the car outside their London home on Tuesday (October 20).

Madonna’s other daughter Mercy James was also seen walking into the car with her nanny.

“My like house is like a Benetton ad,” Madonna joked to Rolling Stone about her multi-cultural family and staff. “I have French nannies, my security guards are Israeli, I have assistants from Argentina and Puerto Rico as well as a Japanese assistant and chef, and another chef from Italy. It’s wonderful. I love it.”

Madonna and her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes, carrying the Harajuku Lovers tote in Kogal, arrive at JFK airport in NYC to catch a departing flight to London on Sunday (October 18).

This past Wednesday, Madonna and ex Carlos Leon threw a surprise birthday bash for Lourdes at a delicatessen in SoHo. Madge brought red velvet cake to the bash!

On Lourdes introducing her to new music: She turned me on to the Ting Tings. There’s a band she loves called Disco Bitch. She’s into My Chemical Romance, and she’s outgrown the Jonas Brothers. She loves Lady Gaga, Ciara, Rihanna, T.I. and Justin [Timberlake]. She lives with the iPod in her ears.

On Lourdes critiquing her: Oh, yeah. My shows, my music, definitely. She’s brutally honest, not just with me, but everyone, about what you’re wearing, who you’re dating, the music you listen to, every choice that you make. She wears the same sizes as me now, so she steals my clothes, my shoes, she’s constantly in my closets. And she’s working on the show now. Now, we feel more like friends, and we fight every other minute. A normal mother-daughter relationship, going through puberty.

On Lourdes’ role on tour: She dresses the dancers backstage. She’s really into hair and make-up, so she does a lot of experimenting. She’s very talented. She could absolutely design her own line of clothes, she’s got great style. Everyone asks her what she thinks of their outfit. Her, not me.

Madonna had all sorts of things to say on radio show On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Thursday (October 1).

Here’s what the 51-year-old Material Mom had to say while being flirted with by Seacrest:

On 34-year-old Ryan Seacrest being a suitor for her: “Honey, you’re kind of old for me (laughs).”

On how young she likes her guys: “You have to be old enough to dress yourself… Younger people are generally more adventurous - they’re more open, more fun - have you met many guys my age? Guys my age are married or divorced or grumpy, fat and balding.”

On her self-image: “My body is part of my job. If I’m not in good shape, then how can I dance around on stage with my butt hanging out, right? I look in the mirror and go ‘hmm-mm. Less cake, more work.’”

On Kanye West: “Yeah, he’s a bit impulsive. I would’ve given him a good talking to. He needs to put a lid on it. I do think he’s very talented but he gets confused sometimes.”

On having famous guests at her concerts: “I was getting super-sharp looks from [Jennifer Lopez]. Her ponytail distracted me. Whenever artists come to see my show, they’re studying me.”

On how her music will be impacted by her new life: “It just means it’s gonna get better ’cause I’m happier.”

On getting married again: “I think I’d rather get run over by a train.” (She actually said this on Letterman last night.)

Madonna noshes on a NY slice of pizza with basil and olive toppings while taping her appearance on Late Night with David Letterman on Wednesday (September 30).

The 51-year-old Material Mom was recently asked if she’s going to have any more kids. She told Popeater, “Who knows? (laughs) Y’know, I have my hands full right now! I have no idea! That’s all I’m going to say. But we never say never.”
