Madonna is High on Hard Candy

Madonna performs at a private show promoting Hard Candy at the Olympia concert hall stage in Paris, France on Tuesday.

In an interview with AP, Madonna talked about the collaboration process of Hard Candy. “I thought of it as a true and equal collaboration. … I like to think that when you listen to the record, you don’t just go, ‘Oh, that is a Timbaland record or that’s Pharrell (of the Neptunes).’ That you hear it and you go, ‘There is something new and different about it.”

NYT: Madonna Uses “Hard Candy” to Renew Her Brand

Madonna’s new album, Hard Candy, will be released this Tuesday, April 29 and The New York Times had a lot of positive to say about it. Here are some highlights:

Madonna uses “Hard Candy” to renew her brand and defy skeptics, yet again.
– No one since Madonna has come close to achieving the same alchemy of flirtation, pop proficiency, concert spectacle and self-guided tenacity.
– “Hard Candy” also taps into exactly the sounds that current hip-hop reclaims from the disco era: electro keyboard riffs, filtered voices and bits of Latin percussion.
– Her grand statement on “Hard Candy” is nothing more than that she’s still around and can still deliver neat, calculated pop songs.

Lourdes Leon is Feeling Fierce

Lourdes Leon, the 11-year-old daughter of Madonna, holds hands with her actor father, Carlos Leon, 41, while walking through New York City’s Upper West Side on Monday afternoon.

The father-daughter duo looked fierce as they stared down paparazzi. Loving the black-and-white striped tights!

Madonna’s new album, Hard Candy, will be released in just a little more than a week — Tuesday, April 29!! Earlier today, NY Magazine published an exclusive interview with the Material mom. To read the interview, visit NYMag.com. Here are some excerpts:

You and Angelina Jolie take a lot of flak for your charity work. People say it’s a fad. It’s not just celebrities. I think people are just strangely suspicious of people who want to do something good.

Tom Cruise was at a recent fund-raiser. Do you sympathize with him? I do. I don’t care if people worship turtles or frogs—if they’re good people, that’s all I care about, and he is a good person. I think he gets a raw deal, just as I think the orphans in Malawi get a raw deal, just as I think a lot of marginalized people get a raw deal.
