• Richard Gere denounced a small right-wing minority in India whose complaints led to an arrest warrant against him. “There is a very conservative political party in India and they are the moral police,” Gere told Comedy Central’s The Daily Show With Jon Stewart yesterday. Gere said he was confident the issue would be sorted out. Legal experts agreed with Gere.
• Sources say that Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon have broken up already because Reese can’t find time for him, leaving him “devastated.” On Easter weekend, Reese went to church with her children instead of the Gyllenhaal clan. Jake’s rep has yet to comment.
• Tyra Banks finally paid a brunch bill yesterday after mistakenly leaving a Manhattan eatery with Russell Simmons without settling the check last weekend. She left a $100 tip for a $100 tab and was very apologetic.
• Tom Cruise’s friend and fellow Scientologist Jenna Elfman is shooting down reports that the actor’s five-month marriage to Katie Holmes is unstable. “Honestly, they’re happy,” Elfman said yesterday in Santa Monica. “They have a great life and they love each other. For some reason, the media cannot experience that. They must put in things other than the simplicity of it.”

Maggie, 29, has still yet to be confirmed as Katie Holmes’s replacement in The Dark Knight co-starring Christian Bale as Batman, Aaron Eckhart as Two-Face, and Heath Ledger as The Joker. The Dark Knight is set for a July 18, 2008 release.

New mom Maggie Gyllenhaal grabbed lunch at NYC’s Cafe Bonsignour earlier this afternoon before heading home. Maggie and her fiancé, Peter Sarsgaard, are proud parents of of a two-weeks-old daughter named Ramona Sarsgaard. More pictures in the gallery of a post-pregnancy Maggie!

Maggie Gyllenhaal and fiance Peter Sarsgaard are officially proud parents! Maggie gave birth to her first daughter late Tuesday, a source close to the Gyllenhaal family confirmed exclusively to JJ.

Maggie and Peter decided to name their daughter Ramona Sarsgaard. Ramona was born around 8PM at a NYC hospital. The newborn’s arrival came two weeks before Maggie’s expected delivery.

This is the first child for Maggie, 28, and Peter, 35.

Congrats to the happy couple and, of course, baby Ramona! Uncle Jake must be so proud! More details coming at you soon…
