First Lady Michelle Obama pledges her support to help in the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake.

“I was eager to join the Ad Council and the Red Cross to launch this call to action in the wake of this weeks devastating earthquake,” said Michelle. “The people of Haiti are struggling just to survive. And every one of us has the power to help.”

Michelle adds, “The images from Haiti are heartbreaking. Homes, hospitals and schools are destroyed. Families searching for loved ones, parents trying to feed their children, but we can all do something. We can help the American Red Cross as it delivers the food, water, and medicine that can save lives.”

To help, visit RedCross.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS. On cell phones, you can text HAITI to 9-0-9-9-9 and $10 will be given automatically to the American Red Cross.

First Lady Michelle Obama shows some Hawaiian (aka the Rainbow state) pride by wearing a colorful dress out to a dinner with family and friends in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sunday (December 27).

Earlier in the week, Michelle kept things simple in a classic white dress while visiting the dining room at the Marine Corps Base in Hawaii on Christmas Day (December 25).

The Obamas will spend the remaining days of 2009 in Hawaii, President Obama’s place of birth. He was born in Honolulu in 1961 and lived there until he was 18. (With a brief stay in Indonesia between the ages of 6 and 10.)

First Lady Michelle Obama drops off donated gifts at the Toys for Tots warehouse in Stafford, Virginia, on Wednesday (December 16).

The organization, run by the Marine Corps, gives toys and gifts to needy children across the US. Michelle dropped off gifts donated by the White House Executive Office staff. According to ABC News, more than 500 toys were collected from the staff!

Michelle also encouraged those who donate to think of older kids in need.

“We’ve got more than enough toys for younger kids, and one of the challenges that this program has is really finding toys for the older kids,” she said.

“You look over in those bins and you just sort of think, you know, the little kids? Great. But you’re 11, you’re still waiting for Santa and you still want to make sure you have something in the stocking.”

First Lady Michelle Obama and Nobel Peace laureate President Barack Obama board Air Force One at Oslo’s Gardermoen Airport on Friday (December 11) and return to the White House.

The First Family will be featured on Christmas at the White House: An Oprah Primetime Special tomorrow (December 13) on ABC. Oprah Winfrey will interview Barack and Michelle and see how the White House has decked the halls.

Michelle Obama spends time in Oslo, Norway as her husband, President Barack Obama, accepts the Nobel Peace Prize on Thursday (December 10).

Later that evening, Barack and the First Lady greeted fans gathered outside for a traditional torchlight ceremony.

“We are at war, and I’m responsible for the deployment of thousands of young Americans to battle in a distant land,” Barack said in his acceptance speech today.

“Some will kill, and some will be killed. And so I come here with an acute sense of the costs of armed conflict — filled with difficult questions about the relationship between war and peace, and our effort to replace one with the other.”

FYI: Michelle’s chartreuse dress is by Calvin Klein, and she added a cardigan by Nina Ricci on top of it!

First Lady Michelle Obama places her hand over her heart as she sings the national anthem with President Barack Obama during the 32nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday (December 6) at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

At the ceremony, Glee star Matthew Morrison took part in a salute to legend Mel Brooks.

President Barack Obama takes hisi daughters Sasha and Malia to pardon Courage the turkey, a Thanksgiving tradition that dates back to the Harry Truman administration, at the North Portico of the White House on Wednesday (November 25) in Washington, D.C.

The day before, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama met with Indian First Lady Gursharan Kaur and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the East Room of the White House.

First Lady Michelle Obama speaks in the White House’s East Room on Friday (November 13).

Focusing on issues that older women face in health insurance, Michelle assured older women that a health care overhaul won’t keep them from Medicare benefits and that the change in health care will bring costs down.

“My husband believes that Medicare is a sacred part of America’s social safety net and it’s a safety net that he will protect — he will protect — with health insurance reform,” she said.

Three women, invited by the White House, spoke about personal incidents they’d had with paying for medical coverage and dealing with health insurance problems before the First Lady spoke.
