Michelle Obama gets glitzy on the December cover of Glamour magazine, their “Women of the Year” issue.

The First Lady, 45, opened up about mentoring, role models and men:

On dating advice for women: “Cute’s good. But cute only lasts for so long, and then it’s, Who are you as a person? Don’t look at the bankbook or the title. Look at the heart. Look at the soul…. When you’re dating a man, you should always feel good…. You shouldn’t be in a relationship with somebody who doesn’t make you completely happy and make you feel whole.”

On keeping her sanity: “I have always tried to put my kids first, and then…put myself a really close second, as opposed to fifth or seventh. One thing that I’ve learned from male role models is that they don’t hesitate to invest in themselves.”

On her personal role models: “My mom, for sure. My dad. The teachers. For me, role-modeling was immediate, it was touchable…Children connect with who is in their lives, present and accounted for…That’s why we’re trying to encourage moms, teachers, fathers, to be that presence in their children’s lives, in their communities, because it really makes a difference.”

First Lady Michelle Obama shows off her mega-watt smile as she sits down for Friday’s Ten@Ten interview on The Jay Leno Show.

Obama shared some of her current iPod picks: Stevie Wonder, Robin Thicke and Mary J. Blige and shared the most annoying habit of her husband, President Barack Obama.

“When he beats me at tennis,” she said, “that gets to be pretty annoying and he beats me quite often!”

The one thing the First Lady refused to share was what her daughters are going to be for Halloween. “That’s top secret,” Obama joked, “you need security clearance for that.”

Check out the Obama family’s official White House portrait!

The portrait featuring President Obama and his family was released Friday (October 23) and was shot by famous photographer Annie Leibovitz on September 1.

Annie has shot photos of the family since 2004, when Barack was running for the Senate, and continued to document his journey on the 2008 campaign trail.

As for where Bo, the family dog, is, a White House spokeswoman laughed and told Reuters, “Bo didn’t make the cut. He was upstairs at home.”

First Lady Michelle Obama takes part in a number of athletic activities, including Hula-Hooping, on the White House’s South Lawn yesterday to promote physical fitness at the Healthy Kids Fair on Wednesday (October 21).

The Washington Post reported that Michelle completed 142 Hula-Hoop hip swivels but had slightly less luck with double dutch jump rope.

The First Lady also told kids about her favorite food: “There’s nothing that the first family loves more than a good burger, right?” Michelle said. “And look, my favorite food in the whole wide world are french fries. I love them. Dearly. Deeply. I have a good relationship with french fries and I would eat them every single day if I could.”

“I tell my girls this: If you’re getting the right foods for most of the time, then when it’s time to have cake and french fries on those special occasions, then you balance it out.”

The First Family’s work is never done!

President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama walk back to the White House with daughters Sasha and Malia after attending a prayer service at St. Johns Episcopal Church on Sunday (October 11).

Later that week, Michelle attended the Miami Dade College Florida Campus Compact Awards Gala on Thursday (October 11) in Miami, Fla. The First Lady spoke to 500 guests about the importance of volunteering.

“Each of us has a role to play, and all of us have something to offer,” she said. “No matter where you come from or what you do for a living, you can make a difference in someone’s life, and in doing so, you can make a difference in your own life.”

First Lady Michelle Obama attends an event discussing the need for health insurance reform and its impact on women and families on Friday (September 18) at the White House in Washington, D.C.

“The status quo is unacceptable,” Michelle said. “It is holding women and families back. [Women are] disproportionately affected by this issue because of the roles that we play in families. [And women] are more likely to work part-time, or to work in small companies or businesses that don’t provide any insurance at all.”

Other pictures include President Barack Obama and the First Lady at a ceremony to award the Medal of Honor posthumously to Sergeant First Class Jared C. Monti at the White House on September 17. Monti sacrificed his own life in an effort to save a injured comrade while on patrol in Afghanistan June 21, 2006.

Also pictured: Michelle visiting the opening of FRESHFARM’s newest farmers’ market on September 17. The idea to have a farmers market just a block from the White House came about from Michelle’s popular “White House Garden” that she started back in March. The garden has inspired people around the world to start growing their own produce and to start buying from the local farmers.

First Lady Michelle Obama greets audience members at the CHCI 32nd Annual Awards in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday (September 16).

Honorees included singer Marc Anthony, who celebrated his 41st birthday and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from President Obama. The president also said that Hispanic members of Congress should be proud of Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latina Justice.

The ceremony comes at the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated from September 15 to October 15.

First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters Malia and Sasha order cheeseburgers, onion rings, fries, and milkshakes from former Top Chef contestant Spike Mendelsohn’s Good Stuff Eatery on Thursday (August 6) in Washington D.C.

“They got the burgers medium,” a spy tells Page Six. “Three starving Secret Service guys were literally standing over the grill as Spike made the burgers, but didn’t eat.” Fellow patrons reportedly had their cellphones temporarily confiscated to prevent pictures from being taken.

Other pictures include President Barack Obama, his mother-in-law Marian Robinson and the rest of the family on their way to Camp David via helicopter Marine One on the South Lawn of the White House on August 1 in Washington, D.C.
