New York Post Cover: MILEY’S SHAME Mon, 28 April 2008
Miley Cyrus has become the center of a media storm for a semi-topless photograph, taken by Annie Liebovitz for Vanity Fair’s June issue.
As you can see, the 15-year-old media darling made front page news of the New York Post with the headline exclaiming, Miley’s Shame.
The near-nude pic shows Miley clutching a satin sheet to her chest with her back bare exposed. In her interview with the mag, Miley said the picture is “really artsy,” but not “in a skanky way.”
She has since apologized to the public for the photos.
“Somebody needs to pull in the reins of this talented little gal before her career stampedes off into the sunset,” says the LA Times.
DO YOU THINK all of this attention on Miley Cyrus is out of control?
Miley Cyrus’ Vanity Fair Pictures Arrive Mon, 28 April 2008
The Vanity Fair photo spread of Miley Cyrus has been released! As always, here are some of the interview highlights:
On Sex and the City: “It’s my favorite show! I love it! Obviously not the scenarios. But if you watch Sex and the City, like the way the friends are, the way that it’s dry and they all have distinct characters—that’s a thing we try to do on our show.”
On the infamous semi-topless shot: “No, I mean I had a big blanket on. And I thought, This looks pretty, and really natural. I think it’s really artsy. [And] it wasn’t in a skanky way.… And you can’t say no to [photographer Annie Leibovitz]. She’s so cute. She gets this puppy-dog look and you’re like, O.K.”
On whose career trajectory she’d like to follow: “Before, I’d say like Hilary Duff. But there can’t be a thousand Hilary Duffs. Then that doesn’t make Hilary special. And there can’t be a thousand Miley Cyruses, or that doesn’t make me special. That’s what a star is: they’re different. A celebrity is different. So, no, mostly I want to make my own path.”
On being well-adjusted to the fame and public attention: “That’s just my personality. I don’t get shaken or stirred up over anything. Which can be a problem sometimes. I’m just, like, so no emotions. I just don’t let things faze me. I’m very much like my dad. My dad’s like this.”
On being pals with paparazzi camped out of her gated home. “Sometimes there’ll be like 40. Sometimes 20, sometimes 30. Sometimes two. I’ll stop and I’ll do the picture. It’s really funny. They’ll buy our dinner and whatever. We’ve become friends.”

Miley Cyrus ‘Embarrassed’ by Vanity Fair Sun, 27 April 2008
Miley Cyrus says that she’s “embarrassed” about semi-topless photographs of herself in the June 2008 issue of Vanity Fair.
“I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed,” says the 15-year-old Disney sensation, who posed with a blanket wrapped around her chest. “I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about.”
A Disney Channel spokesperson adds: “Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines.”
The Miley photos, which were taken by photographer Annie Leibovitz for Vanity Fair, hits newsstands next week.
UPDATE 1: People reports that Miley’s parents left before the final picture at the photo shoot but her grandmother and teacher were there. Miley also added, “My goal in my music and my acting is always to make people happy. For Vanity Fair, I was so honored and thrilled to work with Annie. I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed. The pictures of me on the Internet were silly, inappropriate shots. I appreciate all the support of my fans, and hope they understand that along the way I am going to make mistakes and I am not perfect. I never intended for any of this to happen and I am truly sorry if I have disappointed anyone. Most of all, I have let myself down. I will learn from my mistakes and trust my support team. My family and my faith will guide me through my life’s journey.”
UPDATE 2: The New York Times has a piece on Miley’s topless photo scandal. The Vanity Fair article was written by Bruce Handy and quotes Miley as saying, “Annie took, like, a beautiful shot, and I thought it was really cool. That’s what she wanted me to do, and you can’t say no to Annie.” She also said of the photo, “I think it’s really artsy. It wasn’t in a skanky way.”
Miley Cyrus: Topless in Vanity Fair?!?! Sun, 27 April 2008
Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus appears to be topless in the new issue of Vanity Fair, as screencapped from Entertainment Tonight.
She’s only 15-years-old and the face of the billion-dollar Disney Channel franchise… but to be fair, it looks like she’s holding up a bed sheet!
Pictures of Miley baring her green bra in a batch of less-than-wholesome photos with her boyfriend Thomas Sturges turned up last Sunday. She also posed in her panties in playfully naughty photos that popped up in January.
We could say these Vanity Fair screencaps were Photoshopped… but that’d be too easy!
DO YOU THINK Miley Cyrus is tarnishing her squeaky-clean image?
Joe Jonas to Miley Cyrus: We Got Your Back! Wed, 23 April 2008
Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers recently spoke out to defend pal Miley Cyrus in the midst of leaked shots of her cuddling with boyfriend Thomas Sturges.
“We’re good friends of hers,” Joe said during a recent appearance on Yo on E! “We got her back and we love her to death.”
Added Joe, 18, “I think it’s just the way you come out of it,” he said. “As much as they say, no one’s perfect and everybody makes their mistakes. I think it’s the way you handle it and come out of it in the proper and respectful way.”
Miley Cyrus Signs Seven-Figure Book Deal Tue, 22 April 2008
Miley Cyrus has signed a seven-figure deal with Disney Book Group to write a book about her early life in Tennessee, her move to Los Angeles and the solid relationship she has with her parents (especially with her momager, Tish).
“I am so excited to let fans in on how important my relationship with my family is to me,” says Miley, 15. “I hope to motivate mothers and daughters to build lifetimes of memories together, and inspire kids around the world to live their dreams.”
Says Jeanne Mosure, global publisher of Disney Book Group, “Miley is a genuine international sensation and we are delighted to deliver her first book to families around the world. She is a terrific role model, and we are incredibly proud to give kids everywhere the opportunity to connect with her in an entirely new way. It’s rare that you hear from someone her age that they want to talk about their family. How she sees her family in light of everything that she’s exposed to on a daily basis is pretty incredible.”
The Miley Cyrus book hits stores in spring 2009, when the Hannah Montana movie is also scheduled for release.
Miley Cyrus’ Bra is Green With Envy Sun, 20 April 2008
Miley Cyrus is back at it again with some rather revealing shots of herself pulling up her top and in the arms of a young friend (boyfriend?).
The 15-year-old Hannah Montana star sure is growing up fast! Maybe a little too fast?
Remember the last batch of Myspace photos with Miley posing her in panties?
All these pics can’t be Photoshopped, right? RIGHT?
Miley Cyrus to Pen Autography Thu, 17 April 2008
A Miley Cyrus autobiography is in the works, but (surprise!) Miley is not the one who will actually be writing it.
Say wha-aaaaaat?
OK! reports that the 15-year-old tween queen signed a multimillion-dollar deal with Disney Books and a ghostwriter will be the one to put Miley’s life down on paper.
“The plan is to move her away from Hannah Montana,” an insider says. “She’s outgrown it.”
