Natalie Portman keeps abreast of today’s current events, using a copy of The New York Times to shield herself from paparazzi at LAX airport in Los Angeles on Wednesday (the day after Christmas). The 26-year-old was seen stopping off at the bathroom for a quick peepee break.

On a related note, who really pays for content that’s already free online? The LA Times has an article about free news online costing journalism dearly. Said one 15-year-old student: “If I want to read a newspaper, I go online, but I wouldn’t pay for it. Our generation doesn’t pay for things on the Internet.”

The Natalie Portman Collection arrives February 2008 online and at the NYC boutique located at 382 West Broadway. The shoes are available for pre-order on January 15. 5% of all vegan shoe profits will be going to charity.

Nat’s shoes will run you about $200, far cheaper than the Stella McCartney vegan heels.

You had a kind of precocious child-woman quality in that film that elicited a ‘‘Lolita’’-esque response. Was that unnerving? Yes. One scene was uncomfortable: when I try to kiss Jean Reno. He was, obviously, much older. And around that time, there was the scene in ‘‘Interview With the Vampire’’ when Kirsten Dunst, who was around my age, kissed Brad Pitt. There were articles about young girls in adult roles, and my family ran away from anything that was ‘‘Lolita’’-esque. And then, of course, they offered me ‘‘Lolita’’ itself. That was the ultimate no.

Did it have anything to do with playing Anne Frank on Broadway? For many Jews, especially those who have experienced the Holocaust, Israel represents a place of refuge and acceptance. Perhaps. I was 16 when I played Anne Frank. It was tough: I went to high school full time. I was studying for my A.P. tests and my SATs while I was performing eight times a week. The audience reaction, night after night, was really moving. During ‘‘Anne Frank,’’ I really began to understand what Gertrude Stein meant about the power of repetition. Hearing words over and over increases their meaning and their impact.

On how to live a happy life: “If we can find ways to love life and be joyful without being wasteful or destructive–that’s what’s important.”

So to clarify, you regretted the nudity in Goya’s Ghosts? I don’t really have regrets. It’s more that I don’t like misappropriation of stuff, like when you create something as part of a story and then a piece of it ends up on a porn site. It’s meant to be a dramatic scene and part of a story. That really makes me angry. It’s inevitable and I should know what happens but …

Does what you’re talking about justify the trepidation you’ve had for nudity over the years? Yes. It does. Because I really don’t have an issue with it artistically. I just don’t like when people take it out of a story. It’s meant to tell you something about a character and then to put a scene elsewhere is … but it’s inevitable now, so it’s like I should know better. [laughs]

Natalie Portman dropped by TRL to promote her latest film Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium but got an impromptu dance lesson from Soulja Boy!

Nat, 26, picked up the Soulja Boy Dance, the latest hip-hop-flavored move sweeping the nation. Earlier this month, a group of kid ballet students performed their own rendition of it.

Watch the must-see video below of Natalie Portman jumping-hopping-cranking-whatever-you-can-call-it in her red heels to the Soulja Boy Dance. Maybe she’ll teach model boyfriend Nathan Bogle the dance when she gets home!

Natalie Portman is the center of attention, thanks in large part to a leggy hot pink mini-dress by Elizabeth and James at the world premiere of Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium at NYC’s DGA Theatre on Sunday. (E&J is Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s new clothing line named after the famous twins’ less-visible siblings.)

Also on hand were costars Dustin Hoffman, Zach Mills and Jason Bateman. Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium opens this Friday, Nov. 16.

Natalie is scheduled to appear on The Today Show and Live with Regis and Kelly! this Thursday, Nov. 15.
