Zac Efron admits that Hairspray co-star Nikki Blonsky is his best friend in an interview with Aussie cinema site YourMovies. Best friends apparently kiss each other on the lips on live TV too!

When asked if their onscreen chemistry is a little bit real, Zac answered, “Well, there’s no one better to work with. We honestly became best friends. It’s cool that there’s all these great older actors, but it’s not like were gonna go, “Let’s go hang out with Chris Walken, let’s go to the mall”. [All laugh] You don’t do that. Also, her family was so nice to me, they were like my other parents.

Nikki added, “[We're] just one big happy Hairspray family.”

Hairspray opens in Aussie theaters on Thursday, Sept. 13.

Hairspray co-stars Zac Efron and Nikki Blonsky get chummy on the 2Day FM Hot 30 Countdown with hosts Biggzy and Tim Lee Thursday Morning in Sydney, Australia.

Nikki said, “The world is in love for Zac. They see him for his outer beauty. I know him for the inner beauty and it’s four times as beautiful.”

Recently, it was announced that Zac will be filling the shoes of Kevin Bacon in the re-make of Footloose. He recently told Access Hollywood, “No, I could never be Kevin Bacon. Kevin is, um, so talented — he made such an iconic film… I don’t think I could ever recreate that, but then again that’s not really what we’re setting out to do. The challenge is always, ‘how do you approach that without remaking the film to a ‘T.’ I’m not worried about that, because I don’t think I could do what Kevin Bacon does in the film.
