Rumors about Ashlee Simpson being pregnant started swirling a few days ago, and so Ashlee spoke with MTV about keeping certain personal issues private.

“I just think it’s an inappropriate question to ask any woman,” Ashlee said.

“For me, that’s something that I didn’t ever want to respond to, because I think it’s an inappropriate question. Some things, you want to keep personal, and I think that when people deny [reports that they’re pregnant], it’s probably because it’s something they want to keep personal.”

Ashlee also talked about her engagement and how it was important for her fans to hear it directly from the couple. “It was important for us,” she said. “There was a story coming out and people, with their stories, always write untrue things, and we wanted to let our fans know from us.”

This will be the first child for the 23-year-old “Outta My Head” singer and Fall Out Boy fiance Pete Wentz, 28.

No official word from either Ashlee or Pete’s camps yet.

The pair did, however, confirm their engagement last Wednesday.

Jessica Simpson, the older sister of the recently engaged Ashlee Simpson, has been effusive in her love and support for her sister.

“My sister is overflowing with joy,” Jessica told People. “Pete is an incredible soul. They naturally bring out the best in each other. I couldn’t be happier.”

“[Pete] did ask me,” says Joe Simpson, Ashlee’s dad. “I told him that I would be honored to have him as part of my family.”

“He got down on one knee and she said yes,” a family friend says. “She has an amazing ring, and they are so in love.”

The couple went away to Colorado just days ago where Pete’s brother had an art exhibit, and that is where Pete, 28, popped the question to Ashlee, 23.

The couple that started dating in October 2006 but no wedding date has been set yet.

UPDATE: Ashlee just released an official statement to FriendsOrEnemies, saying, “We know there has been a lot of speculation recently about Pete and I and we wanted our fans to be the first to know, because you guys are the best. Yes, we are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged. Thank you for all of your support and well wishes - it means the world to us. We consider this to be a very private matter, and we wanted to be the first to tell you and to hear it straight from us.”

Boyfriend-in-laws Tony Romo and Pete Wentz recently gushed about each other to In Touch. Tony is currently dating Jessica Simpson and Pete is dating sister Ashlee Simpson.

“Pete’s great, he’s a really laid back, cool guy,” said Tony. Pete feels the same about the Dallas quarterback despite the fact that they’re nothing alike! “It is like the jock and the nerd hanging out,” Pete joked. “I am trying to get him to teach me to throw a football.”

It’s been tough to find time to hang out though, “We really aren’t ever in the same place at the same time to double-date,” Pete said. He’s a supporter of Jessica and Tony though, “They are happy and seem great together,” he added.

Jimmy Kimmel got revenge on longtime girlfriend Sarah Silverman and Matt Damon. (Remember earlier this month, Silverman admitted to effing Damon.)

Kimmel created a rebuttal music video revealing his newfound romance with Matt’s childhood friend Ben Affleck on the TV special Jimmy Kimmel Live: After the Academy Awards.
