Times Are A-Changin’

In 1964, when “The Times They Are A-Changin’” first caught the nation’s ear, Bob Dylan was already being called the voice of a generation, and this sounded like the kind of song a voice of a generation would write. It seemed like it had been written by a committee: all bases covered. Pundits, politicians, parents — look out, the world is turning upside down.

And yet the song was too unpredictably written and compoed to surrender to its own cliches. You couldn’t sing along to it, as with “This Land is Your Land” or “Eyes on the Prize.” “Come Senators, Congressmen/Please heed the call,” Dylan sang — that was a trumpt blowing flat. But “Don’t stand in the doorway/Don’t block up the hall” instnatly raised the specter not of the people’s representatives but of the people themselves, a tide rushing through.

The song has never gone away. Its licensing for commercials — for a Canadian bank years back, for Kaiser Permanente today — has not deformed it, perhaps because the song never promised that the times were changing for the better, only that change was the rhythm of life — in politics and culture, style and ideas, images and sound. Today it’s less a promise than a challenge, to whoever might hear it, a flag waving for all that could change: could, should, might, won’t, must. [Greil Marcus]

UPDATE :: Added the other two interviews!

Rachel Weisz By: Mike Meyers

MIKE MYERS :: I know this is about you, but what’s your favorite Mike Myers movie?

RACHEL WEISZ :: Austin Powers!

MM :: That question was actually a joke, but thank you! [laughs] That’s the most conceited thing in the world, to ask about your own movie. Anyway, what’s your favorite thing about New York?

RW :: The first thing that comes to my mind is being able to get amazing food delivered to your house at any time, day or night. In England, forget it-you can’t get deliveries like that.

Interview Magazine October 2006 features Rachel Weisz -– after years of being touted as acting’s next big thing, Rachel Weisz is suddenly exactly that, teaming up with some of the most interesting directors and starring in some of their most thoughtful films. We predict she’s just getting warmed up. Funnyman Mike Myers gets the lowdown from her. Full article after the jump!

Rachel Weisz Blueberry Nights

Racehel Weisz (Constantine, The Mummy, About A Boy) filmed parts of her upcoming movie, My Blueberry Nights, in Memphis, TN last week and over the weekend. My Blueberry Nights will be director Wong Kar-wai’s first English film and will star Norah Jones supported by Natalie Portman, Jude Law, Rachel Weisz, Ed Harris, and Kevin Spacey.

Here’s the film synopsis:

Based on a short film that Wong shot in Hong Kong, this sees a shopkeeper fall for a mysterious female client who eats blueberry pies. Jones stars as a young woman who travels across America to find the true meaning of love, encountering offbeat characters along the way.

The movie is supposed to be in the format of a "road movie", a description used for a film where the main setting/location is on the road and/or traveling.

The film does not have a solid release date yet, but it is scheduled to be released sometime in 2007.
