Reese Witherspoon has been honoured with the Acclaim For Representing Families of Military Veterans Award by the Veterans Advantage.  Reese’s dedication to her career, her commitment to her family and her willingness to serve as a role model for America’s youth, best represent the values of a U.S. military family. In honoring Reese, a mother herself and daughter of an Army Surgeon who served in Europe during the Cold War, the program is launching a nationwide campaign to honor the families of military veterans. "We believe that when one member of a family serves, the whole family serves and sacrifices. Each day, we hear about someone with Ms. Witherspoon’s background who has made a positive or significant contribution," says H. Scott Higgins, founder and president of Veterans Advantage.

NEW ORLEANS — In a gutted building with no interior walls, exposed pipes and no air conditioning to stave off the Louisiana heat, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner and Cicely Tyson chatted with children who had lost their homes, then watched as they sang, danced and worked on art projects.

The movie stars were among a delegation of women touring devastated parts of the city Monday to meet with families and children trying to adjust to life after Hurricane Katrina.

"I don’t think you get a real clear perspective unless you come down and see it," Witherspoon said after chatting with students at a "Freedom School" set up by the Children’s Defense Fund to help young storm victims.

"The children need attention right now," said Witherspoon, this year’s best actress Oscar winner for "Walk the Line."

The visit was part of an effort by the fund to bring attention to the needs of storm victims, particularly traumatized children. The group plans to open more than 20 such schools in communities along the Gulf Coast: 13 for Louisiana and nine for Mississippi.

The New Orleans school is in part of the city inundated with 5 feet of water after Katrina hit Aug. 29. Many homes sit empty and deteriorating, and piles of storm debris still line sidewalks.

About 1.2 million people younger than 18 are living in areas rendered disaster zones by Katrina, and as many as 8 percent, or 100,000, are expected to develop post-traumatic stress disorder, according to various estimates.

Some experts say the mental health toll may be much higher. Of the first 1,000 children screened by the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, 27 percent displayed symptoms of trauma, including nightmares, flashbacks, heightened anxiety and bedwetting.

"I’ve been shocked and heartbroken," said Garner, star of TV’s "Alias" and the film "Elektra," who cried when the children danced and sang "Something Inside So Strong" by South African singer Labi Siffre.

Los Angeles, California :: New Reese candids!  And you can see her face this time unlike last!  Reese Witherspoon was out with her son Deacon, 2, watching her daughter Ava, 6, play soccer this past Saturday. The photo inscription reads, "Deacon showed support for his big sis by waving a hand-colored sign that read ‘Go Tem’- looks like son Deacon needs to work on his spelling! To celebrate Mother’s Day, the "Lifetime Women’s Pulse Poll*" surveyed nearly 1,000 Lifetime viewers nationwide, who found Reese Witherspoon the hippest mother, ahead of Kelly Ripa, Kate Hudson and Jennifer Garner, while saying Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Aniston (Marc and Vince, are you listening?) are the celebrities most likely to become pregnant this year.

A musical version of "Legally Blonde," based on the hit movie starring Reese Witherspoon and the novel by Amanda Brown, will open on Broadway in April 2007. The show, which has music and lyrics by Nell Benjamin and Laurence O’Keefe and a book by Heather Hach, tells the story of a determined young woman, who, when dumped by her boyfriend, goes to Harvard Law School, which her ex also attends. No casting was announced, but the show will mark the Broadway directorial debut of Jerry Mitchell, who won a 2005 Tony Award for his choreography for the revival of "La Cage aux Folles." Mitchell, who also created the dances for "Hairspray" and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," also will do the choreography for "Legally Blonde." The show will open April 26, 2007, at a Broadway theater to be announced. Preview performances begin March 30. San Francisco will see the musical first, with a five-week engagement at the Orpheum Theatre beginning in late January.

Enjoy these outtakes of 30-year-old acctress Reese Witherspoon from Interview Magazine.  Reese claimed the 34th spot on FHM Magazine’s List of ‘Sexiest Women in the World’.  Last year, she ranked 40th.  Reese is also set to star in Sports Widow where she plays a frustrated wife married to a man who does nothing but watch football on TV (the role of the husband has not been cast but fans have been vouching to Vince Vaughn).  She will school herself on the sport in an attempt to one-up her spouse. Christina Ricci plays the lead role in Penelope, a woman born with the face of a pig (hence her face covered by her scarf) who tries to end her lifelong curse and find true love.
