Reese, 31, was interviewed on Good Morning America earlier this morning to chat up her new film, Penelope. The film is about a girl named Penelope, who ends up with a pig’s nose and ears as the result of a family curse. Reese related herself and her kids to pig-nosed Penelope:
“We all sort of deal with that in our own childhood or raising children. I wouldn’t want my kids to miss out on any of that teasing and bullying. It makes you who you are–when you don’t make the soccer team and you can’t… The thing that drives me crazy today is everyone wins the award. Everyone wins an MVP. No. They’re not! I distinctly recall the two weeks of crying because I didn’t make the volleyball team. It made me interesting.
And what if Reese’s kids don’t make the soccer team one day?
“You know what?” Reese said. “You deal with. Hopefully, it helps kids figure out who they are. But it is tough as a parent. But that’s part of being a parent!”
Penelope opens on Friday, Feb. 29. That’s right, leap year day! It’s the first film to open on leap year day since 1980!

On the way out of the restaurant, Reese was kind enough to stop and give a couple bucks to a homeless woman.

Reese Witherspoon will produce and star in the film adaptation of the Jen Sacks novel Nice, according to Jo Blo.
In the dark comedy, Reese, 31, will play a 30-year-old New York magazine editor named Grace.
Here’s the book description from Amazon: “Grace is nice to a fault. She never picks fights, and doesn’t like to criticize or hurt people’s feelings. Problem is, the men in her life never seem to take a hint. And she just can’t bear to tell them outright when she isn’t interested. So she kills them. A clean break–no messy emotions, no heated arguments. But someone is onto her. His name is Sam, and he and Grace, with one very dangerous thing in common, make a killer couple. It’s a match made in heaven-as long as they can both survive the relationship… “
Ryan Phillippe shares some father-son time with Deacon, 4, at a park in Brentwood, Calif. on Thursday. Deacon set up some cones on the field and played some sports with his dad and other kids from the neighborhood.
In other news: Ryan, 33, and Australian actress Abbie Cornish, 25, look like they’re officially a couple. The two were photographed together last week at a friend’s house in Beverly Hills, and Ava (Ryan’s daughter with ex Reese Witherspoon) was recently spotted out shopping with Abbie. Abbie, who starred with Ryan in the movie Stop Loss, was widely credited with ending his seven-year marriage to Reese.
“They are a real couple,” says a source. ” [The relationship] has really grown. She’s spending time with his kids - it’s not like she’s on the side. She’s apart of the family.”
Reese Witherspoon ranked number one on The Hollywood Reporter’s annual list of the highest-paid actresses. The 31-year-old actress commands $15 million to $20 million a movie.
Angelina Jolie came in second, and Cameron Diaz came in third with a $15 million-per-movie requirement.
While Angelina and Reese are now asking for $15 million-$20 million per movie, they frequently agree to “no-quote deals” — deals in which the studios actually pay them far less than their usual fee (usually when they take on supporting roles).

The father-of-two recently sat down for an interview with new magazine Man About Town. Here are some interview snippets:
On being a mess after his divorce from Reese Witherspoon: “After the divorce I was a physical wreck. I wanted to die. I was ready to kill myself. I was not taking care of myself at all. I would wake up and cry and vomit.”
On using his past experiences to now cry on demand: “Now, it’s f–king easy. When I was younger, I didn’t have enough to cry about. But since I’ve had kids, I feel my work has become better, because my life is fuller and more complicated, and I’ve experienced so many highs and lows.”
On why you won’t see him doing any endorsement deals in the near future: “If I see actors doing commercials, such as Catherine Zeta-Jones in the T-Mobile ads now, when I see her in a movie, it’s hard to disassociate the two.”
On Elizabeth Taylor and Elton John, who once took him out for tea: “I was sitting there looking at them interact, and I’m thinking, These people have raised millions of dollars to save people. The potential power of celebrity is astounding.”
