Ricky Martin steps out for a rare appearance in public as he braves the sub-freezing temperatures in New York to grab a cup of coffee on Friday.

Perhaps his twins are keeping him up at night? His twins boys, Valentino and Matteo, are now 5-months old!

About his experience with parenthood, he said, “I was involved from day one in the pregnancy and I was there when my sons were born. It was beautiful. There were tears of joy and it was really fascinating. I was sweating the first time I held them because I was so nervous!”

Ricky Martin reveals the first photos of his 4-month-old baby twin boys, Valentino and Matteo, in this week’s People and Hola cover. Check out some interview snippets:

On being a hands-on parent: I don’t have a nanny. I’m doing this on my own because I don’t want to miss a moment. I have a personal assistant who helps me, someone who takes care of me while I’m taking care of them, but I’m the one who changes the diapers, the one that feeds them, the one that bathes them, the one that puts them to sleep.

On becoming a parent through surrogacy: Adoption was one option, but it’s complicated and can take a long time. Surrogacy was an intriguing and faster option. I thought, ‘I’m going to jump into this with no fear.’

On getting to know Valentino and Matteo: Valentino loves to sleep. I call him ‘Mr. Peace and Love’ because he’s so chill and serene. Matteo is more alert and active. He was up at 3 a.m. the other night and just hanging!

Ricky Martin welcomed twin boys a few weeks ago via a surrogate mother, his rep reveals. The 36-year-old Latin sensation will take a year off to be a full-time dad and raise the twins. Interesante!!!!!

“The children, delivered via gestational surrogacy, are healthy and already under Ricky’s full-time care,” his rep said in a statement. “Ricky is elated to begin this new chapter in his life as a parent and will be spending the remainder of the year out of the public spotlight in order to spend time with his children.”

Congrats to Ricky and his two new sons!

Earlier this month, American Idol alum Clay Aiken, 29, and music producer pal Jaymes Foster, welcomed a baby boy also through artificial insemination.

It seems artificial insemination is the new “it” thing in Hollywood these days!

Ricky Martin gives a rousing performance with The Blue Man Group during the opening number for the 2007 Latin Grammy Awards held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Thursday in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ricky picked up two awards out of his four nominations for MTV Unplugged, for Best Male Pop Vocal Album and Best Long Form Music Video.

”I want to dedicate this to the union of all Spanish-speaking peoples,” Ricky said as he accepted the pop award.

• Patrick Dempsey posed in his PJs for Entertainment Weekly’s annual “Photo Issue.” Dempsey says he was very relaxed when auditioning for Grey’s Anatomy. “A doctor was something that felt comfortable,” he tells the mag.
• Joaquin Phoenix hung up on Time Out New York’s Laura Leu during their interview the other day after he became upset with her line of questioning. When Leu asked him how he prepared for his role in We Own the Night, Joaquin told her he never prepares for roles. She then pressed about his preparation tactics and Joaquin replied, “I said that because I though it would sound good to the press,” before telling he deserves no special credit for doing his job and ending the call.
• Rachael Ray is defending her advertising deal with Dunkin’ Donuts after being criticized by chef and Kitchen Confidential author Anthony Bourdain in next month’s Outside magazine. Bourdin said he felt it was ridiculous that someone as influential as Ray would endorse the company. “It’s like endorsing crack for kids,” he told the mag. Ray’s rep said the Food Network star promotes “balance and moderation.”
• This Halloween, Live With Regis and Kelly will present the first 3-D episode in daytime television history. The show is partnering with Walgreens to offer free 3-D glasses for proper viewing.

Pop star Ricky Martin, named king of the parade, joined NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg for a ceremonial ribbon cutting before ascending a float that promoted the Ricky Martin Foundation, which advocates for child welfare around the world.
