Boyzone’s Stephen Gately Dead at 33

Stephen Gately, the 33-year-old lead singer of Irish boy band Boyzone, died on Saturday (October 10) on the Spanish island of Majorca, where he was vacationing with his husband Andrew Cowles (inset).

According to UK’s NOTW, “the gay singer’s coming out ten years ago caused a sensation in the pop music world. .. He married [Cowles] in a civil union in March 2006. His manager Louis Walsh was unaware of Stephen’s sexuality when he selected him for the band and has said that, had he known, he would have thought twice before picking him, citing that “‘It wasn’t cool then to have a gay guy in a band.’”

John Hughes Dies Of Heart Attack

Director John Hughes died suddenly of a heart attack while taking a morning walk in New York City earlier today (August 6)

The 59-year-old directed many cult classic films such as The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Sixteen Candles. He also produced Pretty in Pink.

John is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy, two sons, John and James, and four grandchildren.

Deepest condolences to his family and friends. RIP.

Vibe Magazine Shutting Down

Vibe magazine, the urban-music magazine founded by producer Quincy Jones in 1993, will be closing, reports Daily Finance.

No word on when the last issue will be published. Eminem last covered it’s June/July 2009 issue.

UPDATE: Danyel Smith, editor in chief of Vibe, says, “On behalf the Vibe Content staff (the best in this business), it is with great sadness, and with heads held high, that we leave the building today. We were assigning and editing a Michael Jackson tribute issue when we got the news. It’s a tragic week in overall, but as the doors of Vibe Media Group close, on the eve of the magazine’s sixteenth anniversary, it’s a sad day for music, for hip hop in particular, and for the millions of readers and users who have loved and who continue to love the Vibe brand. We thank you, we have served you with joy, pride and excellence, and we will miss you,”

Following Michael Jackson’s shocking death, celebrities have been tweeting their condolences. Here’s a sampling:

Michael Jackson Dead at 50

Michael Jackson died on Thursday afternoon (June 25), according to Los Angles Times. He was 50.

Jackson suffered a cardiac arrest and wasn’t breathing when paramedics arrived at his Los Angeles home shortly before 12:30 p.m. Paramedics were unable to revive him and the King of Pop was pronounced dead by doctors after arriving at UCLA Medical Center.

Jackson was the seventh child of the Jackson family. He is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince Michael Jackson II.

Farrah Fawcett Dies of Cancer at 62

After a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer, Farrah Fawcett died Thursday morning. She was 62.

Her spokesman, Paul Bloch, said she died at 9:28AM at the St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif.

At the 62-year-old actress’s bedside her longtime partner Ryan O’Neal and actress pal Alana Stewart.

Farrah, best known as one of TV’s Charlie’s Angels, was diagnosed with anal cancer back in September 2006.

David Carradine Dead at 72

Actor David Carradine was found dead in a Bangkok hotel room Wednesday.

His manager Chuck Binder said that Carradine was in Thailand shooting his latest film Stretch, and that he believes the 72-year-old actor “was full of life, always wanting to work… a great person.”

Reuters is reporting that Carradine was found dead, naked and hanging from a rope in the closet of his room at Bangkok’s Nailert Hotel.

Carradine was best known for his roles in Kill Bill and the television series Kung Fu. His last pictures may be of him running errands on May 21 in Tarzana, Calif.
