“Yes, he is puerile, offensive, and utterly inappropriate, but so what?” writes Aaron Hicklin in his Editor’s Letter. “The same has been said of Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, Joan Rivers, and Sarah Silverman, comic geniuses all, whose humor rests on having the balls to say ‘boo’ to the ghost in the room.” The ghost in this case, he adds, is homophobia — “Although whether it’s being lampooned or perpetuated is part of the tension that makes the movie work.”

Sacha Baron Cohen as Bruno strikes a number of poses outside the Ed Sullivan Theater for the Late Show With David Letterman in New York City, on Thursday (July 9).

Earlier this week, Cohen, 37, appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman, but not in character as Bruno. He shared the process about how they went about getting an interview with a terrorist for the movie.

Bruno will be released today (July 10) in the US.

Isla Fisher & her precious daughter Olive Cohen have a fun time petting bunnies at the Studio City Farmers Market on Sunday (June 28) in Los Angeles, Calif.

The 33-year-old Aussie actress walked along her daughter Olive, 19 months, as she rode a pony.

Isla came out to support her husband Sacha Baron Cohen at the premiere of Bruno last Friday. A scene in Bruno featuring Michael Jackson’s sister La Toya has been permanently deleted from the film. “Out of respect for the Jackson family, the filmmakers have decided to remove a small scene involving La Toya Jackson,” Universal studios said in a statement.

FYI: Isla is wearing the Melinda Maria “Goddess of Power/Ganesha” necklace.

Sacha Baron Cohen dresses like a little schoolboy and inspects his package during a Macquarie Street photo call for his new comedy, Bruno, on Monday (June 29) in Sydney, Australia.

“Treat your clothes like you would your pet,” Sacha said (as his alter ego Bruno). “Love them for a week, put them in a ziplock bag and throw them in the river Danube.”

Bruno opens in theaters everywhere on Tuesday, July 7.

Sacha Baron Cohen rides atop a bedazzled army tank at the premiere of his latest comedy, Bruno, held at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Thursday (June 25) in Los Angeles. Here are some early reviews for the movie:

THR: Bruno is only intermittently funny and all too often the “ambushes” of celebrities and civilians look staged. The movie is even a tad — dare we say it? — tedious.

Variety: There are 61 laughs, three dildos, one gyrating, talking penis, an anal bleaching and one very pissed-off politician in Bruno, which should be enough to make any movie fly… Undeniably funny, outrageous and boundary-pushing, this further documentation of Sacha Baron Cohen’s sheer nerve will draw an abundant share of Borat fans, gross-out seekers and the culturally curious, making for some potent B.O. figures, at least at first.
