Salma Hayek and French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault have called off their engagement, their rep confirms to USA TODAY. (We so called it earlier this week!)

“We are sad to announce the engagement of Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault has been canceled. There will be no further comment,” Hayek’s rep said in a statement.

The announcement comes ten months after the couple welcomed daughter Valentina Paloma, who was born in LA.

Earlier this week, Salma took her child Valentina out to lunch, with Francois Henri noticeably missing.

Salma began dating Francois-Henri, who is head of the luxury goods firm that owns Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga, in 2006 after meeting him in Venice.

Salma Hayek (in Alexander McQueen) is honored at Women In Film’s 2008 Crystal Lucy Awards held at the Beverly Hilton on Tuesday in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Ms. Hayek was saluted by WIF with the Lucy Award for excellence in television for being the Emmy winning actress/director/producer and Executive Producer of the award winning program, Ugly Betty.

While accepting her award on stage, Salma said, “I’m 41 now. And I have to say, it is the best time in my life.”

Added Salma, “I wanted [Ugly Betty] to be different than anything I was seeing on television. I also wanted Latin people to feel excited and proud that there was something on television that sort of belonged to them, but I wanted the American audience not to feel alienated from it.”

Salma Hayek heats up the red carpet in a jade-colored gown at the the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull during the 2008 Cannes Film Festival on Sunday in Cannes, southern France.

Salma Hayek joined seven other celebrities for the charity poker festival, including Woody Harrelson, Edward Norton, Goldie Hawn, and Adrien Brody.

The 8 celebrities will vie for $1 million in a Texas Hold’Em poker tournament with direct elimination. The money will go to the charity of their choice.

Salma Hayek and daughter Valentina Pinault, 8 months, catch a departing flight at LAX airport in Los Angeles on Friday.

Salma, 41, will be at Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art on Monday to christen Puma’s racing yacht at a VIP dinner. She will be named Puma’s godmother for the company’s new boat and its ocean racing team.

FYI: Salma’s fiance, Francois-Henri Pinault, is CEO of the French luxury goods and fashion conglomerate PPR, which is Puma’s parent company.

Salma Hayek sports a fake beard on the set of her latest film, Cirque du Freak at New Orleans City Park in Louisiana late last week.

Women with beards? Not attractive.

Salma, 41, was seen on set with her daughter, Valentina Pinault, 7 months.

Cirque Du Freak is about a touring sideshow filled with monstrous creatures including bearded lady Madame Truska, played by Hayek. The film is expected to be released February 19, 2009.
