Sarah Michelle Gellar adds a splash of color to the red carpet in a blue Temperley London column dress with gold knit trim at the Los Angeles premiere of The Air I Breathe held at Hollywood’s ArcLight Theatre on Tuseday.

The 30-year-old actress costars in the film with Forest Whitaker, Brendan Fraser, Kevin Bacon, Emile Hirsch, Kelly Hu, John Cho and Andy Garcia.

The concept of the film is based on an ancient Chinese proverb that breaks life down into four emotional cornerstones - Happiness (Whitaker), Pleasure (Fraser), Sorrow (Gellar) and Love (Bacon). The proverb speaks of these emotions, not as isolated fragments of feelings, but as elements that make up the whole of the human existence. Each of the four main protagonists is based on one of the four emotions; and like the proverb their paths are inextricably linked to each other.

The Air I Breathe opens in limited release next Friday, Jan. 25.

With Sarah Michelle Gellar, what you see is what you get pretty much.

The 30-year-old actress is featured in January’s ensemble indie The Air I Breathe, the second of three Gellar films coming out in quick succession (last year’s Southland Tales and this month’s Possession are the others). The February 2008 issue of Radar has a great interview with her, so here are some of the highlights:

On her BFF Manolo Blahnik: “One day, a couple friends and I went into Bergdorf just to get out of the rain. A man who works there, who I know, he said, “Mr. Blahnik is here signing autographs and doing sketches.You have to come meet him. And there was this big line of women, and I thought, This is going to be so embarrassing, he’s going to have absolutely no idea who I am! So I’m waiting for this blank look from him, and he’s like [imitating his Spanish accent], “It’s Sarah Michelle! I love the Buffy !” He was so lovely. He sketched a shoe and signed it, and it actually hangs in my closet.”

On being a child star: “As a kid, performing was my passion, but it wasn’t at the forefront of my life. I wasn’t a child star, I was a working child actor. So I got more from seeing other actors who had missed their childhoods.”

On portraying a porn star: “With Southland Tales, playing a porn star, being in an ensemble cast, all those things were experiences, obviously, that I’d never had. Coming out in the wardrobe alone some days was enough of a challenge—just getting out of my trailer.”

On her superficial dreams: “My dreams are just so on the surface that, literally, there’s nothing to actually read into.”

FYI: You’ll never hear SMG talk about her political views (she says she’s worried about influencing her fans) or her religious ones (“I don’t talk about religion”).

Sarah Michelle Prize (née Gellar) keeps hidden behind a scarf and hubby Freddie Prinze Jr. as she shies away from papparazzi at LAX airport in Los Angeles on Sunday. Prinze carried one of SMP’s dresses in a Dolce & Gabbana garment bag.

This past Friday, a solo SMP, 30, was seen wearing the same coat and also passing through LAX.

Mrs. Prinze changed her name from Gellar on their fifth wedding anniversary in September.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, 30, legally took her husband Freddie Prinze, Jr.’s last name on their fifth wedding anniversary, according to Us Weekly.

“She officially changed her name to Sarah Michelle Prinze,” says one source. “On their anniversary (September 1), she showed [Freddie] her new driver’s license. It was so sweet.”

The 30-year-old actress tells Maxim that girls are no holds barred when it comes to fighting: “Chicks are dirty — hair pulling, scratching. Guys have guy codes. They don’t sucker-punch. They don’t punch in certain areas. Anything goes in chick fights. But if anything ever goes down, I think I’ll be OK. I’m pretty scrappy.”

Our readers have been asking us to get you on the cover for years. Why now? Lots of things. I’m 30, and I’m promoting a bunch of different kinds of movies. I like to shake things up every once in a while. It’s good to leave people wanting more, but I don’t want to leave them waiting too long or they’ll lose interest. Besides, how could I not do a Maxim shoot when I have a movie coming out in which I play a porn star?

Exactly. In Southland Tales, you’re a porn star who is trying to get her own reality show. It’s quite a departure from Buffy. I ran the gamut in the films I made this year. When you think about who should play a porn star, don’t I just pop into your mind? The character I play is sort of Arianna Huffington meets Jenna Jameson.

Sarah Michelle Gellar lands at LAX airport on Saturday in Los Angeles.

Independent Film Channel (IFC) reports, “After a notoriously tough premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last year, Southland Tales finally rolls into theaters November 14th, 19 minutes shorter and tighter and still like no other movie you’ve seen. The apocalyptic tale set in a alternate future Los Angeles presents a U.S. reeling from nuclear terrorist attacks, in which the draft has been reinstated, arms dealers peddle their wares from ice cream trucks on Venice Beach and an alternative energy source may have caused a rift in the space-time continuum. Add to that a cast that includes The Rock, Mandy Moore, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Seann William Scott, Justin Timberlake and dozens more. “It’s a really simple film, I promise,” director Richard Kelly (of Donnie Darko).”

In the film, Gellar plays ex-porn star in the midst of reconverting named Krysta Now.
