Shannen Doherty will reprise her role as Brenda Walsh in the upcoming CW spinoff of Beverly Hills 90210.

“Shannen Doherty will be returning to 90210,” executive producer Gabe Sachs said during the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills on Saturday.

Brenda is expected to playthe director of West Beverly High’s musical.

Back it May, it was announced that Jennie Garth will be reprising her role as Kelly Taylor but will play a guidance counselor at her alma mater, West Beverly High.

How fantastic is this!?

According to sources, Shannen Doherty will definitely make an appearance on the new 90210 and may even film scenes with Jennie Garth.

A very reliable and very inside source who works on 90210 tells E! that, “It is happening with Shannen. It’s just a question of how long she’ll shoot, whether it will be one day or ten, and what the storyline will be, but we are working on it and it is a very real thing.”

Another insider close to the negotiations points out: “I want to stress that Shannen has been very, very cool through this whole process. We have seen nothing like the behavior for which she was once famous for.”

While Tori Spelling is signed on to return to 90210, those plans will have to wait a little while. “I’m looking forward to returning to 90210 in a later episode,” Spelling, 35, told People, “but I just had my baby three weeks ago via C-section. So right now I have to focus on recuperating, and my first priority is my family.”

Shannen Doherty is in talks to star in the new spin-off of Beverly Hills 90210, reprising her role as Brenda Walsh, according to EW.

The 37-year-old actress will not commit to the role until she has seen her character’s storyline and is apparently asking for money than she is currently being offered.

Shannen’s former co-stars Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth have already agreed to reprise their roles in the series. But a source reveals that, “There’s still some animosity there,” and that Garth wasn’t exactly jumping for joy upon learning of Doherty’s potential hiring.

However, Garth then said, “A lot of time has passed, and I’m a big girl. I’d have no problem with her coming on the show.”

Beverly Hills 90210 was the first primetime soap to make it big and the first season was finally released on DVD earlier this month. A decade’s worth of drama unfolded for Dylan, Kelly, Donna, Steve, David, Andrea and twins Brandon and Brenda. (Personally, I was a Dylan and Brenda shipper.) Relive all their teenage angst with the DVD, which has all 22 first season episodes along with bonus features (commentary by creator Darren Star, behind the scenes clips, etc…)

Shannen Doherty recently joined The Oxygen Network for reality series Breaking Up with Shannen Doherty, where Shannen helps you break up with bad boyfriends/girlfriends, “frenemies,” or tyrannical bosses. The series premiered this past Tuesday and I can’t imagine ratings were of breakthrough proportions…  Shannen, 35, and Holly, 32, both don’t have any other TV or film projects on the horizon.  More pictures in the gallery!
