Shia LaBeouf is speaking out publicly about his arrest and car crash in July that put him in the hospital. While promoting his next action thriller, Eagle Eye (out September 26), he talked to Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood about the crash.

“The car hit me at 70mph,” Shia said. “It was eye-opening and terrifying. It was one of the biggest things that’s happened to me, for sure, in my life. I’m grateful to be here.”

He added, “[But] I’m working right now. We propped [my hand] together so I could get through Transformers and then I’ll go have another surgery and be back to 100 percent.”

English comedian Russell Brand will host the event while Britney Spears will be opening up the night with a surprise performance. Kaba Modern and Fanny Pak of America’s Best Dance Crew will battle it out to determine who will present the Best Dancing in a Video award.

Shia LaBeouf sticks out his tongue on the set of the upcoming blockbuster, Transformers 2 at Marina Del Rey, Calif. on Thursday.

Christy Carlson Romano, who costarred with LaBeouf in the Disney TV series Even Stevens, recently told People magazine, “I have his back!”

“He’s been through a lot, he’s had a hard life, and he grew up with some scars. But he’s a fighter,” said Christy. “I grew up with girls like Scarlett Johansson and Hilary Duff, and I can tell star quality when I see it. He’s got it!”

Shia LaBeouf gets shirtless again on the set of next summer’s possible blockbuster Transformers 2 in Los Angeles on Friday.

This time, however, Shia sports some blood and battle scars all over his body. The 22-year-old appeared to be wearing a smaller splint for his left hand instead of the larger protective bandage seen earlier.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is due out next year on June 26th.

Shia, 22, was still wearing a large bandage on his left hand following his car accident last month.

Shia LaBeouf and a new gal pal spend the day at a beach in Malibu, Calif., on Sunday afternoon. When the 22-year-old actor spotted paparazzi, he started walking backwards to avoid being photographed with his new lady.

Shia has been back on the Los Angeles set of Transformers 2 since last week even though he had extensive surgery on his left hand last month. This is all following his late-night car crash.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (movie poster below) is still aiming for a June 26, 2009 release. It’s going to be mighty interesting to see how the film works in Shia’s hand injury.
