Tom Welling gets a big standing ovation during the Smallville panel discussion at the 2009 Comic-Con Convention on Sunday (July 26) in San Diego, Calif.

The 32-year-old actor will direct two episodes in the upcoming 9th season, which has the theme of “Clark’s darkest hour.” There will also be a drawn-out love triangle with Clark, Lois, and Red-Blue Blur.

Other panelists included Justin Hartley, Erica Durance, Cassidy Freeman, Callum Blue (Zod), and Allison Mack.

Brian Austin Green, who starred on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, has been cast on Smallville as a villain, kryptonite-powered cyborg Metallo.

TV Guide reports that the 35-year-old actor will appear in at least the first two episodes of Season 9, which premieres Friday, Sept. 2.

Originally, B.A.G. was supposed to join another CW series, One Tree Hill, but the deal fell through. That role went to former Lipstick Jungle hunk Robert Buckley instead.

TV’s sexiest supervillian Michael Rosenbaum, aka Lex Luthor on Smallville, leaves the Grand Hotel Intercontinental on Friday in Paris, France where he is attending the Jules Verne Adventure Film Festival.

Last weekend, Rosenbaum, 34, was in Los Angles to play the Burt Reynolds Dodgeball Invitational, where everyone had to wear a fake mustache (pictured).

Kickin’ It Old School stars Rosenbaum as Kip Unger. Other stars include Jamie Kennedy, Maria Menounos, Bobby Lee, Vivica Fox, et al. Watch the trailer here. Opens on Friday, April 27.

"Mercy" Synopsis :: A masked tormentor (guest star Ian Tracey) takes Lionel (John Glover) hostage and orchestrates a series of elaborate games that Lionel must win in order to stay alive. After Clark (Tom Welling) tells Martha (Annette O’Toole) that Lionel knows his secret, she sets out to confront him, but inadvertently becomes a pawn in the tormentor’s game and ends up fighting for her life. The role of "Oni Demon/Lincoln Cole" is being cast, as is a "Limo Driver."

Here are some candid pictures I found floating around the Internet of Smallville’s Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) chillin’ with a few female friends.  Anyone know what his left bicep tattoo says?   Smallville is all new this week with episode "Hypnotic" airring this Thursday @ 8PM ET/PT on the WB.  In this episode, Lex recruits Simone (Nichole Hiltz) to put Clark (Tom Wellling) under her "supernatural spell"  to reveal Clark’s secrets and break Lana (Kristin Kreuk) and Clark up.
