Tina Fey Covers TV Guide

Tina Fey and 30 Rock costar Alec Baldwin take the latest cover of TV Guide. Here are some interview highlights:

Fey on Republican veep nominee Sarah Palin: “When I first saw her, I didn’t think we looked alike at all. Then during the convention, I started to think, ‘OK, maybe a little.’ I expected people to be like, ‘Ahhh, we thought it’d be better than that.’ I stand by the pieces as both fair and quite gentle…We glue my ears down. That’s one of the tricks… I’ll tell you, that lady is five times better-looking than I am. She’s 44? She’s got none of that droopy s—. She’s keeping it tight!”

Baldwin on Fey having political superpowers: “She got me to play a Republican! For conceivably six years of my life! She is so much less vain and self-absorbed than most. So many actresses are high-maintenance. But she doesn’t bring that neurosis.”

Fey on her new book deal with Little, Brown & Company: “I wouldn’t write a big tell-all, behind-the-scenes thing…it would be humorous. Unfortunately, I could become the Erma Bombeck of the 25th century, because it’s going to take me a long time to write.”

Fey on stand-up comedy: “I really admire stand-up as an art form. Growing up, I would watch anything with a red brick wall behind it. I loved it. But I always said if I ever tried it, I wouldn’t want to half-ass it.”

Tina Fey is the New “Maverick”

Tina Fey makes her weekly appearance as Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin on last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live.

SNL regular Jason Sudeikis impersonated Democratic VP nominee Joe Biden and guest star Queen Latifah as PBS journalist and debate moderator Gwen Ifill. Together, they parodied Thursday night’s debate between Palin and Biden.

“We’re gonna ask ourselves what would a maverick do in this situation, and then ya’ know, we’ll do that,” Fey’s Palin responded when asked on how to deal with the financial crisis.

Fey-as-Palin, who habitually winked at the audience, dismissed questions about climate change, saying she wanted to talk about taxes instead: “We are not afraid to get mavericky in there.”

At the end of the segment, after delivering a shout-out to a local Alaska third-grade, she asked with flute in hand, “Are we not doing the talent portion?”

She joins a star-studded list of guest stars that includes Jennifer Aniston, Oprah Winfrey and Gossip Girl frenemies Blake Lively (Serena) and Leighton Meester (Blair).
