• Gianfranco Ferre, the Italian designer known as the “architect of fashion” for his structured, sculpted shapes and for his groundbreaking tenure at Christian Dior, died Sunday. He was 62. Ferre was taken to the San Raffaele hospital in Milan on Friday after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage.

• Britney Spears tipping off paps to show off bod? A source told the Daily News that Britney has been calling paparazzi agencies before running her daily errands for the past couple weeks.
• Alec Baldwin asks NBC to release him from his 30 Rock contract, according to a transcript released to the AP from his taping of The View. The actor said he wants to focus his time on “parental alienation,” after a nasty voicemail he left on his daughter’s cell phone was leaked. NBC released a statement as well, saying they are looking forward to Baldwin continuing his role on the show and did not indicate that he would be getting out of his contract.
• Avril Lavigne’s album “Best Damn Thing” hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts this week, beating Nine Inch Nails’ “Year Zero” (No. 2), “Now 24” (No. 3), and American Idol finalist Bucky Covington’s debut album (No. 4)
• Sarah Silverman will be hosting this year’s MTV Movie Awards. Good choice! “When they first asked me to host the MTV Movie Awards, I got all choked up,” says Sarah. “I was trying to eat an apple at the same time, and it went down the wrong pipe.”
