Woody Allen has been awarded $5 million from American Apparel, after settling a lawsuit brought against the company by the filmmaker in 2007.

Allen, who sought $10 million in damages, had sued American Apparel for using his image on two billboards in 2007 without his consent (including the rabbi billboard pictured here).

Dov Charney, founder and chief executive of American Apparel told WWD, “Naturally there is some relief of not having to go through a trial but I also harbor a sense of remorse and sadness for not arguing an important issue regarding the First Amendment, particularly the ability of an individual or corporation to invoke the likeness of a public figure in a satiric and social statement.”

Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto will star in Woody Allen’s upcoming still-untitled movie, reports Variety.

The 24-year-old Indian-born model-turned actress joins the all-star cast that includes Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins.

Woody’s next flick, Whatever Works, will be released in June.

Slumdog won eight Oscars on Sunday, including the Academy Award for Best Picture of 2008.

Woody Allen joins owner Dylan Lauren (daughter of designer Ralph Lauren) for the relaunch celebration at Dylan’s Candy Bar on Monday in New York City.

The 72-year-old director and wife Soon-Yi Previn brought along their two daughters Bechet and Manzie to DCB.

Dylan’s Candy Bar pioneers the concept of merging the world of art, pop culture, and fashion, with candy. The flagship store is located in New York City, which expanded another 5,000 more square feet (making it largest candy store in the world). It is complete with a full bar offering fun cocktails. The store’s architecture and design is inspired by Warhol, Chihuli, Oldenberg, Koons, Murakami and Lichtenstein.

Penelope Cruz (in L’Wren Scott) joins director Woody Allen and costar Rebecca Hall at the photocall for their new movie, Vicky Christina Barcelona, during the 2008 Cannes Film Festival on Saturday in Cannes, France.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona, out Aug. 29, tells the story of a typical male fantasy, a romantic threesome with two women.

Woody was asked if he would ever entertain the notion himself. He replied, “You know, it’s hard enough to get one person. In trying to figure out solutions in life, two actually tends to make it more complicated than one. The characters in this movie are able, the chemistry was right, and they’re able to handle the situation. But in real life, most of us petty people could never handle anything like that. It’s hard enough to get a relationship that can work out with one person, but with two, it becomes geometrically more fatal.”

Evan Rachel Wood shoots scenes for her new romantic comedy in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood on Friday.

Woody Allen is directing it and details are under wraps. It’s temporarily called “Woody Allen’s Summer Project”.

The film also stars Patricia Clarkson, Ed Begley Jr. and Larry David. The Tudors’ Henry Cavill is also rumored to be part of the cast.
